Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first in
their Ranji One-Day encounter against Haryana at
the Ferozshah Kotla grounds on Sunday. As it
turned out, they won the encounter too. Delhi,
relishing the advantage of winning the toss, took
the game by 87 runs.
Boosted by the elegant southpaw Goutham Gambhir
(47), the Delhi team looked like forging a good
score. However, they lost their way and were
struggling at 145 for 5. Fortunately for the home
team, stumper P Chawla made a fighting 58 and
saved the home team the blushes. With all other
batsmen chipping in, Delhi made 262/7 in their
allotted 50 overs.
In response to Delhi's big score, Haryana had no
answer. Although P Sehrawat made 58 at the top of
the order, Haryana could manage only 175 all out.
With all other batsmen failing to make much of a
contribution, Haryana lost the first match of
their limited overs challenge. Mediumpacer Amit
Bhandari with 2/29 and left arm spinner Rahul
Sanghvi with 2/28 were the pick of the bowlers.
