Allan Donald, South Africa's premier fast bowler, has indicated that he
may retire from the international game in 2 years' time, reports Reuter.
"I'll give serious thought to my international career after the World
Cup in 1999, if I make it that far", Donald said after the final one-day
international against Australia in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
Donald (30), who claimed 41 wickets in 8 tests this summer, as well as
58 wickets in 26 limited overs internationals, reaffirmed his intention
to settle in England where he has played for Warwickshire for 10 years.
"Ali Bacher has said that I can play Test cricket for the next 5 years,
ut I don't think you can plan someone else's career," he said.
"I will definitely reconsider my international career in 2 years, not
just for cricket reasons but for the sake of my family. South Africa
have a hectic schedule for the next 2 years which means spending long
periods away from home. There is a lot of pressure under the
international spotlight.
"But if I do decide to hang up my international boots I would still like
to carry on playing for Warwickshire for a couple of seasons. I think
I'll have plenty to offer them, either with the youth scheme or in a
senior coaching role."
