A delegation from the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) held a
meeting this morning at eleven with affiliates of the Eastern Province
Cricket Board regarding the judicial management of cricket in this province.
The meeting under the chairmanship of UCBSA President, Mr. Percy Sonn was
attended by UCBSA CEO, Mr. Gerald Majola.
The meeting was held in a very positive spirit and all parties committed
themselves to placing EP Cricket on the right track and to ensure EP
Cricket's successful hosting of an ICC World Cup 2003 semi-final.
Mr. Sonn announced the names of the two judicial managers for EP Cricket who
was legally appointed this morning. They are Mr. Kevin Helm and Mr. Cliffie
Louw. Mr. Helm is a former EP Cricket treasurer and a chartered accountant
and Mr. Louw is a Port Elizabeth attorney.
The Judicial Managers will appoint an Advisory Council within the next few
days consisting of several life members of EP Cricket representing all
spheres of our community.
Mr. Sonn said the fact that EP was awarded a semi-final as well as having
the privilege to host England, was an indication of the UCB's commitment in
supporting EP Cricket and the people of the Eastern Cape.
He said he was confident that EP Cricket will again return to responsible
civil governance after the judicial management has completed their work.
Both the Judicial Managers will attend a media conference this afternoon in
Committee Room 1 in the Port Elizabeth City Hall at 16:30. Please advise if
you have requirements to speak to the newly appointed judicial managers.
