England today named a 14-man squad for next week's 2nd Cornhill Test Match against West Indies at Lord's (June 29-July 3).
The selectors have added three players to the eleven who played in the 1st Test at Edgbaston. The Yorkshire pace-bowler Matthew Hoggard is called up to the squad for the first time, his County colleague Craig White returns after recovering from illness, and there is also a recall for the Derbyshire all-rounder Dominic Cork.
A minimum of one player and a maximum of two will be released from the squad after practice on Tuesday afternoon.
Announcing the squad, Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney said: "After a lengthy meeting, the selectors have decided that this is not a time for panic measures and to give a vote of confidence to the eleven players who played at Edgbaston.
"As this will be the 100th Test Match at Lord's and we are one-nil down in the series, the onus is on the players to deliver an improved performance. Despite how the wicket played at Edgbaston, our performance with the bat was poor and we have to do much better in the rest of the series.
"Equally, with the notable exception of Darren Gough, our bowling in the 1st Test was disappointing and we cannot afford to display such lack of control again.
"As Craig White has only played limited overs cricket since returning from injury, we will be looking to assess his fitness and form this week. Dominic Cork has done well this season with both bat and ball - Lord's is a favoured ground of his and he will give us the option of playing a swing bowler.
"The inclusion of Matthew Hoggard continues our policy of including younger bowlers in the squad as we did with Stephen Harmison earlier in the season. Stephen would have been included in the squad for this match if fit, but his shin injury is not as serious as first thought and we expect him to be available for selection for the Old Trafford Test Match.
"Of the contracted players, Michael Vaughan remains very much under consideration while we have agreed to a request from Lancashire that Chris Schofield be released to play in their Norwich Union NCL match against Yorkshire on Tuesday."
