Salahuddin raps PCB`s experiments
KARACHI, Jan 16: Salahuddin Ahmed, former National Selector, has
issued the following statement:
"I am closely following the various statements given by Majid
Khan, Chief Executive of Pakistan Cricket Board, during his recent unannounced visit to Karachi. His decision that all the
seven matches of Pakistan`s Golden Jubilee Cricket Tournament in
which teams from South Africa, West Indies and Sri Lanka will
participate, will be held at Lahore just because there are
floodlights there is strange. What is the fault of other major
cities of Pakistan like Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and
Faisalabad where P.C.B. has not installed floodlights. Is it
necessary to celebrate Pakistan`s Golden Jubilee under
floodlights and deprive other cities of joining in the celebrations.
Similarly Majid Khan`s argument that there are only two cricketers left in Pakistan team from Karachi because cricket is
played here on cemented wickets is even more absurd. Does he
not know that this very city has produced batsmen of world class
and calibre like Hanif Mohammad, Mushtaq Mohammad, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Asif Iqbal etc. By the way who is excluding
Rashid Latif, Asif Mujtaba and Basit Ali from the Pakistan team?
Majid Khan has also come forward with a new and funny idea of
re-ordering the time-table of domestic cricket by arranging the
Quaid-i-Azam Trophy and the Patron`s Trophy simultaneously. A
departmental team will first play its match in the Patron`s Trophy during one week, then its player will disperse to join their
association`s team in the4 Quaid-i-Azam Trophy in the next week
and so on. It appears that Khan is bent on ruining the domestic
cricket which has been producing good cricketers as practically
the whole of the current Pakistan side is the product of our own
domestic cricket. "I will advise Majid Khan to be led by reason
and not to destroy Pakistan cricket through queer
experimentation`s.
