Fresh round of CricInfo Championship games brings team changes

Jamie Grove and Peter Bowler come into the Somerset squad in place of England Test players Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick for tomorrow's CricInfo Championship clash against Kent.

Somerset are currently top of the Division One CricInfo Championship following their victory over Yorkshire, and skipper Jamie Cox is determined to sustain Somerset's early season good form.

"It's very early in the season but we want to build on that win," said Cox. "Kent are a good batting side and they have given us some trouble over the last couple of years and they'll take some beating."

James Ormond returns for Leicestershire as they meet CricInfo Championship favourites, Surrey, at The Oval, but Phil DeFreitas remains unfit.

Surrey will be hit by the absence of several players on Test duty, but opposition skipper, Vince Wells, is aware of the Champions strength in depth.

"This game is going to be hard and although they have got their Test players missing, it will still be difficult but there is a lot of team spirit here and everyone is battling hard," Wells said.

Ben Hollioake, in sparkling form with the bat of late, returns to the Surrey squad alongside Jonathan Batty and Nadeem Shahid.

Jeff Hammond, the Glamorgan coach, is awaiting news of Robert Croft's England situation before deciding on the side to take on Lancashire at Old Trafford.

"The only thing we are waiting on is whether Robert Croft is required for England duty," Hammond explained.

"Lancashire will be without Michael Atherton and so it's a good opportunity for us to get a good result," he continued.

Graham Lloyd comes in for Atherton, but Andrew Flintoff remains sidelined by a side strain.

Yorkshire are another side hit by England call-ups, with Vaughan, Sidebottom, White and Gough all otherwise engaged at Lord's. At least they will be buoyed by the return of Matthew Hoggard from injury.

Meanwhile in the second division, Notts have been hit by injuries to Jason Gallian, John Morris and Richard Logan ahead of their game against unbeaten Warwickshire.

Middlesex travel up to Durham fresh from their remarkable victory over Gloucestershire. The hosts will welcome back Martin Love after their loss to Warwickshire.

Paul Pollard returns for Worcestershire against Derbyshire and Gloucestershire travel to Hampshire to face an unchanged side after their victory last week.
