Glamorgan are bracing themselves for the probable loss of several key players to international call-ups, and are considering the option of a second overseas player to replace Mike Kasprowicz, who is currently an integral part of Australia's Test and one-day plans for the Ashes tour.
Aside from Kasprowicz's absence, Glamorgan can expect to lose Alex Wharf for the one-day triangular series in June, and Simon Jones for the Tests against Bangladesh and Australia, as well as Matthew Maynard, who has been released from county duty to act as England's assistant coach.
The upshot is that Glamorgan's resources are likely to be stretched, as they prepare to build on their successful season in 2004, in which they topped the first division of the totesport League and also gained promotion to Division One of the County Championship.
"We're not in the market for a second overseas player yet," Glamorgan's captain, Robert Croft, told BBC Sport, "but we are looking around the world and have that option. Mike had a fantastic winter with Australia and we've been expecting to lose him for a while.
