Stalwarts of yesteryear have been shedding superfluous kilos in
preparation with the "Golden Oldies" six a side cricket tournament to
be held on Sunday, February 21. Ten schools will present their
fittest old boys who are over forty years of age.
At the draw held at the Wesley College Old Boys Club on Tuesday, Old
Nalandians picked to meet hosts Old Wesleyites in the opening game at
8 am . While the 'Mount' Old Thomians and the Peterites have drawn
byes for the first round games, the Old Sebastianites meet the
Katugastota Old Antonians, Old Royalists meet the Kingswoodian
'oldies' and the Old Bens meet the Old Richmondites.
The feature of this tournament is that there will be a losers plate
to keep everyone in the race till the very end.
Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lucky Gunatilleke, President of the Old
Wesleyites' Sports Club, the School Principal Ben Fernando and Chief
Organiser Eric Gauder said that every endeavour has been made to make
the tournament an enjoyable one for the old boys of schools that have
been Wesley's traditional rivals throughout its 125 years of the
existence.
