Dian Gomes, a member of Sri Lanka Cricket's interim committee, has resigned from his post citing excess workload as the reason. Gomes juggles his cricket commitments with roles at the Amateur Boxing Association, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and an apparel manufacturing company.
"I sent my letter of resignation to Arjuna [Ranatunga] and copied it to the sports minister," Gomes told Sri Lanka's Daily Mirror. "It is difficult to handle SLC affairs with my workload. There is a meeting at SLC almost every week.
"I was struggling for sometime, and then decided to resign as I should do a proper job if I am holding some responsibility."
Gomes, who joined the interim committee under Jayantha Dharmadasa a year ago, said he was also planning to quit his post as president of the boxing association and concentrate on developing the sport from behind the scenes. "I actually wanted to quit my NOC post as well, but the minister and NOC president Hemasiri Fernando both insisted that I stay till at least my term ends next March."
With his departure the interim committee now has nine members - Ranatunga (chairman), K Mathivanan (secretary), Sujeeva Rajapakse (secretary) and members - Sidath Wettimuny, Aravinda de Silva, Guy de Alwis, Ashok Pathirage, Premasara Epasinghe, Lalith Wickremasinghe.
