Harris critical of poor planning and preparation

The executive of the Canadian Cricket Association (CCA) will meet with the management and players of the full and Under-19 sides to discuss the dismal performances of the two teams in recent tournaments.

The senior side were well beaten in all five matches during the ICC Six Nations competition, leading to their captain, Joe Harris, resigning and retiring. The U-19 team also lost all games they played in the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, the third successive World Cup in which they have failed to register a win.

"We will look at the reports of the managers and coaches and talk to the players to find exactly what went wrong and how we can work together to do better," Ben Sennik, the president of the CCA told its official website. "It's imperative that we get to the bottom in frank and fair discussions and try to come up with solutions that will help us improve our on-field performances. "

Speaking to Cricinfo, Harris was blunt in explaining his thoughts as to why things have got so bad. "We lack confidence and proper preparation," he said. "There aren't proper resources available to the players to work on their game."

The batting in particular caused Harris the greatest concern. "There seemed to be no planning, and we moved around aimlessly. Canada really needs to look at the type of resources required to build a good side. I think they have the talent but lack guidance."

The need for younger players to be fast-tracked was also high on Sennik's agenda. "We have to start looking ahead and bring in some new blood," he said. "That is something that we have to look at very seriously because some of our players are getting up in age."
