After conceding a first innings lead of 63 runs, Haryana fought back
commendably to defeat Rest of India by 81 runs to win the MA
Chidambaram (under-19) Trophy on the fourth and final day at the
Maharaja Aggarsain Stadium in Rohtak on Saturday.
Resuming their second innings at 247 for seven, Haryana were all out
for 284 after 40 minutes play in the morning. Kiran Adhav was the most
successful bowler with five for 77.
Rest of India had to get 222 runs for victory. But after the opening
pair put on 29, they lost three wickets at that score and never
recovered. At lunch, Rest of India were 68 for five and though skipper
Kashinath Khadkikar put up some fight with a defiant 30 off 75 balls
with five hits to the ropes, it was pretty much a hopeless task as the
wickets fell steadily. Nitin Aggarwal (4 for 41) and Amit Mishra (4
for 50) caused almost all the damage.
