Hong Kong through to ACC Trophy 2006 semi-finals after defeating Singapore by 6 wickets

Rising like a phoenix from the ashes, Hong Kong made the most of their reprieve by the ACC Trophy 2006 organising committee by beating Singapore by six wickets and booking themselves a place in the ACC Trophy 2006 semi-finals, where they will face Afghanistan.
Batting first after winning the toss, Singapore posted a modest 235-7 from their 35 overs, with Munish Arora hitting 65 and Glenn Meyer 51. Buddhika Mendis (45) and Chaminda Ruwan (41) also made valuable contributions to the Singaporean total.
In reply, Hong Kong's top order batted sensibly and with Rahul Sharma (91*) laying a solid foundation, Hussain Butt was able to do what he likes to do best - score runs. The two Hong Kong batsmen survived chances when in the 30's but made the most of their let-offs to forge a match-winning 180-run partnership. When Hussain Butt was dismissed shortly after bringing up his second century of the tournament, Hong Kong was on the verge of a famous victory. Butt's efforts were rewarded with the Man of the Match honour.
The victory sees Hong Kong just one win short of achieving their primary objective of reaching the final of the ACC Trophy 2006. Before they achieve that goal, they must face the strong Afghanistan team at the Selangor Turf Club on 24th August 2006. Afghanistan reached the semi-final stage by thumping hosts Malaysia by nine wickets.
