Extended winning streak will see England climb
If England can maintain its winning One-Day International form in the NatWest Series against South Africa and Zimbabwe starting on Thursday 26 June it could boost its rating to 108, level with third-placed Pakistan.
Defeat in the opening ODI of the summer against Pakistan means that England can no longer claim third place outright in the ICC ODI Championship table, but victories in all six NatWest Series games and the final would see England climb from eighth to fourth.
England must reach the final to prevent its rating tumbling. It needs to win five of its seven matches to overtake seventh-placed New Zealand, while six wins out of seven will lift England into fifth place ahead of West Indies and India.
South Africa is currently comfortably second in the table but has the chance to close the gap on Australia. An unbeaten series for South Africa would lift its rating to 125 while a poor series will see it fall as low as 115.
Zimbabwe will remain ninth in the rankings, but will improve its current rating of 65 if it can win at least two of its group matches.
This is the last ODI series before the ICC ODI ratings are refreshed at the start of August, when the oldest matches will be dropped from the ratings.

How the ICC ODI table works:
The formula used by the ICC to determine team Ranking positions takes into account the following factors:
- results from all ODI matches played over the previous two to three years
- strength of opposition, with greater reward for beating higher ranked opponents
- greater importance is placed on more recent results, with older matches dropped every 12 months
- all matches have equal status, with no account taken of venue or margin of victory
The points awarded are then divided by the number of matches played in the valid period to produce a rating.
