Peshawar, March 9: Pakistan recalled seasoned duo of Ijaz Ahmad and
Mushtaq Ahmad for the third cricket Test starting in Karachi from
Sunday. Ijaz and Mushtaq were overlooked for the one-dayers and first
two Tests. The recall of the two cricketers makes no logical sense
after Pakistan has already lost the three-Test series.
While the selectors recalled the two along with Wasim Akram and Moin
Khan, who have recovered from groin and knee injuries respectively,
they dropped Aamir Sohail. The left-handed former captain totalled 46
runs in the four innings, including two ducks. In the second innings
at Peshawar, he received a cruel pad and decision from English umpire
John Hampshire.
Besides Aamir Sohail, the selection committee also released
all-rounder Abdur Razzaq who took six wickets in Rawalpindi but is
struggling with a hamstring injury. Atiq-uz-Zaman, who showed a lot of
promise and potential with the gloves behind the wickets, makes way
for Moin Khan.
Pakistan squad: Saeed Anwar (captain), Shahid Afridi, Wajahatullah
Wasti, Ijaz Ahmad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, Imran
Nazir, Moin Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad
Akram, Irfan Fazil, Arshad Khan and Mushtaq Ahmad.
