Srinath was misquoted in an interview with some Bombay Tabloid as
saying that he was disappointed at not getting chances and
getting to bowl on Indian pitches. R.Mohan writes, Wadekar had a
few tough words to say to Srinath about it. Wadekar is reported
to have joked "If I didn't know him so well, I'd have fired him".
The report goes on further to state that Kapil is acutely aware
of holding Srinath's progress. Also, the report states that
Srinath will be the key bowler in N.Z and he can let rip his pace
as it was seen in the 2nd OD between India and SL.
He then makes interesting comparison between Srinath and
V.Prasad, who was expected to make this tour. Mohan states that
V.Prasad is much more stronger and can bowl faster in prolonged
spells than Srinath. He also states that there are two
Vegetarians in the Indian team - Srinath and Kapil (Kapil has
given up non-veg for a month after reaching the record). He
states Srinath's vegetarianism might have something to do with
him getting tired after his first spell.
"Kambli learning to counter swing bowling" - as reported by
G.Vishvanath.
At net Kambli faces 4 kiwi fast bowlers and Indian opening
bowlers. Kambli is keen to keep his good run of scores intact.
"Its miserably cold and wet and out here" - As reported by
R.Mohan
"Why this tour at all ?", asks Azhar, "The locals tell me that
rain signals winter and if the whole tour is going to be like
this, then it is going to be depressing". "A Ranji trophy will
all the stars available would have been terrific".
Mohan further states "Dunedin is extremely cold and the Indian
cricketers are finding it very hard to cope with such weather.
Probably this will be a good acclimitazation, if ever Russia gets
test status and the match is in Siberia".
