Ishant, the bouncer

Watch the plays of the day from the third day of the second Test between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo

The how do you do

The third day of a Test is usually called moving day, while India did not make much progress in the morning, the post-lunch session was different. A prime example of India trying to set the pace was the first ball Dinesh Chandimal faced from Ishant Sharma - a bouncer directed right at the body

The goodbye

Ishant continued to test Chandimal, until a ball on the fourth-stump channel, a lot fuller in length, found him slow to react. The outside edge flew to second slip, where KL Rahul needed a second attempt to pouch it

The how do you do II

If it ain't broke, why fix it? Especially on a pitch that was showing a little bit of variable bounce. So Ishant continued to bang the ball in, even if it was brand new, and caught Jehan Mubarak on the move. Another batsman took a body blow

The riposte

Seeing as it worked so well against them, Sri Lanka did not lose the opportunity to try a few short ones themselves. Much to M Vijay's detriment

The why me

The batsmen were continued to be tested on the back foot and Vijay found himself in the receiving end of a second bouncer in four overs
