South Australia's most successful batsman, Jamie Siddons today announced his retirement from First Class cricket.
The announcement follows a year of ups and downs for the right hand batsman, having missed the last three of the Redbacks matches.
"I've had a great life in cricket, but both mentally and physically it's now the right time for me to retire," said Siddons.
While Siddons is currently contemplating different job opportunities, he said he'd like to stay involved in the game.
"I'd love to get into coaching in some way shape or form", said Jamie.
Siddons debuted for Victoria against West Indies in 1984-85. His First Class debut for South Australia was in 1991-92 against Queensland.
Siddons played 160 First Class matches, 280 innings for 11,587 runs. This included fifty three 50's and thirty five 100's at an average of 44.91. He also took 206 catches.
His highest score was 245 for Victoria against New South Wales in 1990-91. Highest score for South Australia was 197 against New South Wales in Sydney, 1992-93.
Siddons represented Australia on one occasion in a limited overs match against Pakistan in Lahore in the 1988-89 season, scoring 32.
Siddons is the leading run scorer in Australian Domestic First Class cricket, having made 10,643 runs.
He also made the second most appearances of any player in Australian Domestic First Class cricket, with 146 appearances, behind RJ Inverarity on 159.
Siddons also shares top spot as the fieldsman with the most catches in Australian Domestic First Class cricket, level on 189 with Inverarity.
Siddons captained South Australia 73 times, winning 21, losing 29 and drawing 23 matches. He was captain of the Redbacks in 1995/96 when they won the Sheffield Shield.
