Kerala were no match for Karnataka in the Ranji One-Day clash at Guru Nanak
College in Chennai today. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the
Kerala team could do nothing to change the course of the game as the better side
stamped its superiority on the game. Once more it was MP Sorab (36) and Sunil
Oasis (33) who were the main contributors for Kerala. Medium pacer Dodda Ganesh
was among the wickets yet again, but the five wicket haul eluded him. He had to
settle for 4/19 off his 7.5 overs. All out for 141 in 40.5 overs, there was
little hope for Kerala.
When Karnataka came out to bat, they suffered two early setbacks as openers J
Arunkumar and Mithun Beerala were both dismissed after they had made nine runs
each. However, that was hardly a problem, as GK Anilkumar made his second
successive half century of the tournament. Tilak Naidu made an unbeaten 43, but
it was Anilkumar's 52 (69 balls, 6 fours) that was the top score of the match.
Karnataka reached 142/4 in just 33.3 overs and thereby won the match by six
wickets. This leaves Karnataka with six points and in the running for the P
Subbiah Pillai Trophy.
