Nick Knight, the Warwickshire captain and former England batsman, faces at least a month out of action after breaking a bone in his right hand. Knight sustained the injury when he was hit by Nantie Hayward during his 303 not out against Middlesex at Lord's three weeks ago.
Knight, 34, had an X-ray on Tuesday evening and will have another one today to determine the extent of the injury. He was forced to miss the current Championship game against Kent at Beckenham with Warwickshire riding high at the top of Division One. Knight himself has been in fine fettle, scoring 896 runs so far this season in the Championship at an average of 99.
Knight retired from one-day international cricket after the 2003 World Cup to concentrate on adding to his 17 Tests.
