At a special Council meeting of the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union held on
Friday 15 May 2003, the Members of Council expressed overwhelming support
for the President of the Union, Dr Logan Naidoo. The vote of confidence (32
for, 0 against and 4 abstentions) vindicates the President and expresses
support for the success of the Union under his leadership. This support of
the President also sends out a clear message to the recent detractors who
have used the media as a platform of debate.
At the same meeting the Council after much debate agreed to the request by
the CEO, Mr Cassim Docrat, to be given an early retirement package. Council
was informed that Mr Docrat and the Treasurer of the Union, Mr Sathie
Govender had completed negotiations on a favourable package that
accommodated the CEO's needs. Mr Docrat's package included an exit from his
CEO position on the 31 July 2003 and the assumption of a Consultant position
with effect from 1 August 2003 until December 2004. This position will in
the main deal with Marketing and Corporate Liaison. Council was informed
that Mr Docrat would like to change the exit date of his present CEO
position from July to December 2003. Council agreed that this could be
negotiated with Mr Docrat within the parameters of the package already in
place.
At a Special General meeting held prior to the above Council Meeting, the
proposed changes to the constitution came up for discussion. Notwithstanding
the fact that the Country Districts (10 Sub Unions), the two schools bodies,
Women's Cricket Association, Umpires Association and one Associate Sub Union
having fully discussed the changes and were ready for the discussion, the
Meeting agreed to a proposal by the President Dr Logan Naidoo that
notwithstanding the fact that Sub Unions were given over a month to discuss
these changes, Durban (DDCU) and Maritzburg (MCA) be given more time to
discuss the changes due to the apparent confusion amongst some of their
Members on the need for the proposed changes. As a result of this
postponement, a special general meeting will now be held on 6 June 2003 to
discuss the proposed constitutional changes and the Annual General Meeting
of the Union will now be moved to the 27 June 2003.
At the meeting an emotional President once again appealed to all Councillors
to build on the positives of the Union and not let their personal problems
impact on the integrity of the Union.
