League Round-up: Angus claims six-wicket haul to continue fine start

Graeme Angus, the Northumberland paceman, has made an impressive
start to his first campaign with Bishop Auckland in the North
Yorkshire and South Durham League.
And he helped his new club maintain their challenge for their first
championship since 1980 with a six-wicket haul against Darlington in
a rain-affected game.
Angus claimed six for 33 from 15 overs, his best figures of the
season, as Darlington responded to Bishop Auckland's 211 for three
from 32 overs with 147 for seven.
Only a defiant half century from former Durham wicketkeeper Andy
Fothergill denied Bishop Auckland outright victory but the bonus
points they earned were enough to edge them above Stockton at the top.
Durham Senior League leaders Burnmoor were another side to steal a
march on their rivals, beating Whitburn. In the only other game to
reach a definite conclusion, Horden's Andrew Robson claimed a
hat-trick in his side's draw with Bolden.
Norden maintained their lead at the top of the Central Lancashire
League with a nine-wicket win over third-placed Middleton,
professional Asif Mujtaba hitting 103. There was also a century off
69 balls for Royton's Chandra Arothe against Oldham although Sohail
Jaffer replied with an unbeaten 88 to secure the points.
New Bradford League leaders Hanging Heaton enjoyed a weekend of mixed
fortunes. A century opening partnership between Danny Payne and Steve
Bartle set them on course for the six-wicket win over Farsley that
took them to the top of the table but they were brought down to earth
with a bang the following day when they slumped to a one-run defeat
by Woodlands of the Central Yorkshire League in the Heavy Woollen Cup.
Tim Orrell hit a half century for Woodlands and they held their nerve
to reach the last eight along with three more CYL sides, Ossett,
Mirfield and Townville.
In the Airedale and Wharfedale League, Follifoot openers Paul Miller
and Mick Taylor were just 16 short of a new record for the third
wicket as they added 196 against Illingworth. Both batsman reached
three figures although rain once again conspired to deny their side
victory.
The League Cricket Conference President's Trophy got under way with
the Liverpool Competition, the holders, easing into the second round
at the expense of the Cheshire County League.
The architect of their success was Sri Lankan batsman Jude
Mahadanaarachichi, whose 80 from 82 balls, including 10 fours, and
who guided his side home by three wickets with three overs left.
And there was a surprise for the Northern League XI, defeated by the
Bolton League in the north-west inter-league competition, the seventh
time the favourites have lost to Bolton in the first round of the
competition.
