Steve Magoffin, a right-arm fast bowler from Queensland, has signed up to play for Western Australia for the next two first-class seasons. Magoffin, who had attended the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy last year after impressive performances in the Cricket Australia Cup, had also been offered a contract by Queensland, but he chose otherwise.
"I was weighing up the options in Queensland and I saw the opportunities over in Perth," Magoffin said. "There is a long list of bowlers in Queensland and Perth seemed like the place for me to begin my first-class career. I rely on bounce and movement off the pitch and I'm looking forward to playing at the WACA."
Jo Angel and Paul Wilson might have retired, but Magoffin's arrival at Western Australia means that they will not run out of giant fast bowlers anytime soon. The 24-year-old Magoffin is six-feet-five-inches tall, and promises to be quite a handful with the new ball.
