Jimmy Maher is to replace fellow Australian Mike Hussey as Durham's second overseas player this summer. Hussey has been enjoying success with Australia, who have requested his availability for training camps mid-season.
Maher is already familiar with the Riverside, having stepped in for Hussey last year. He is currently in a rich vein of form for Queensland, hitting his career best 223 in the Pura Cup Final against Victoria. His captain this year will be Dale Benkenstein, who has taken over from Hussey at the helm.
Hussey expressed his disappointment, and promised to return one day, if possible. "It is unfortunate that by achieving my dream of playing for Australia, I can't return to Durham for a second year. I have unfinished business at the Riverside and hopefully I can return in future years. With Martyn [Moxon, the coach] and Dale in charge, the team couldn't be in better hands and I wish the guys good luck for the coming season."
