More foreign pairs arrive for double wicket

LAHORE, April 21: The pairs of India, South Africa, Sri Lanka and
Australia also reached the provincial metropolis on Monday to take part
in the first International Floodlit Double Wicket Cricket Tournament to
be played at the Qadhafi Stadium from April 22 to 25 (Tuesday to
Friday).
The Zimbabwean duo will be arriving on Tuesday morning. The pairs of New
Zealand and United Arab Emirates (UAE) had reached Lahore on Sunday.
The eight pairs are taking part in the competition. Those have been
divided into two groups. At the conclusion of the group matches, two top
teams of both the pools will qualify for the semi-finals.
Top pair of Pool "A" will play with the runner-up duo of Pool "B" in the
first semi-final. Similarly, the top pair of Group "B" will meet the
runner-up pair of Group "A" in the second semi-final on April 25. The
final of the competition will also be held on the same day.
The group matches will be of six-a-side while both the semi-finals will
be eight-overs-a-side. However, the final will be a 10 overs-a-side
game.
On the first three days, a card of four matches will be completed daily.
The tournament will begin on Tuesday with a match at 6:45 pm between the
Pakistani pair of Aaqib Javed and Shahid Afridi against the UAE duo of
Sultan Zarwani and Riaz Hussain Poonawala. The experienced Test umpires
Shakoor Rana and Khizar Hayat will supervise the match. Athar Zaidi will
be the reserve umpire.
Programme of other matches of the first day is:
7.45 pm: India (Vijay Sanjay Manjrekar and Atul Satish Wassan) vs Sri
Lanka Umagiliyedurage Upul Chandana and Galage Pramodaya
Wickremasinghe). Umpires: Shakoor Rana and Muhammad Siddique Khan. TV
umpire: Mian Aslam.
9.45 pm: Australia (Damien Richard and Jo Angel) vs New Zealand (Stephen
Paul Fleming and Simon Blair Douli). Umpires: Mian Aslam and Muhammad
Siddique Khan. TV umpire: Khizar Hayat.
10.45pm: Zimbabwe (Eddo Andre Brandes and Guy James Whittal) vs South
Africa (Adam March Bacher and Louis Johannes Koen). Umpires: Athar Zaidi
and Mian Muhammad Aslam. TV umpire: Shakoor Rana.
