Danny Morrison proves his fitness in Christchurch yesterday.
New Zealand strike bowler Danny Morrison came through his
two-day fitness test in Canterbury on track to tour Sharjah and
Pakistan in November.
Morrison was assessed by Dayle Hadlee and fitness expert Paul
Carpinter at NZC's high performance centre at Lincoln University
during the last two days as he works to recover from a groin
operation in June.
"We're very pleased with Danny's progress," Hadlee said
yesterday.
"His fitness levels now compare favourably with the boys at the
Academy and his previous levels."
Morrison, 30, bowled another seven overs yesterday to follow the
bowling stint and extensive fitness work he did the previous
day. "He was tired from the fitness stuff, but there was no sign
of injury.
"It's all very encouraging."
Morrison returned to Auckland yesterday with the likelihood now
of being named this weekend in the New Zealand team for the
tour.
Selection panel convener Ross Dykes, of Auckland, said he wants
the best players possible for the tour, and said he is prepared
to have Morrison's fitness re-assessed again when the team has
its first training camp in early October.
"It makes sense that he gradually builds-up, and if he is close
to 100 per cent in a couple more weeks, then we are prepared to
give him that time."
