SRI LANKA SPORTS NEWS AT-A-GLANCE

* The world champion Sri Lanka cricket team is scheduled to
leave for the West Indies tonight on a three-week tour. The team
will leave the Bandaranaike International Airport at 8 p.m. on a
British Airways flight which will carry them to London where
they will be on a six-hour transit.
The Lankan cricketers will then fly to Barbados tomorrow from
where they will travel to Port of Spain. The team will reach
Trinidad only on Tuesday. Their opening game is a limited over
match against Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday at the Queen's
Park Oval before they meet the West Indies in the only one day
international to be played at the same venue on Friday.
Arjuna Ranatunga and his men will play a three-day practice
match with the Leeward Islands at the Antigua Recreation grounds
on June 8, 9 and 10 before the two Tests. The first Test is from
June 13 to 17 at Antigua Recreation grounds, while the second
Test is from June 20 to 24 at Arnos Vale, St. Vincent.
* Kegalle District gained a first innings lead over Moneragala
District in their Minor district cricket encounter played over
the weekend at Pelwatte grounds. Rain delayed the start on the
first day and play commenced at 3.50 p.m.
Batting first, Moneragala District were able to score only 137
runs with Chaminda Fernando top-scoring with 52 runs. S.
Senanayake and T. R. Silva captured 5 and 4 wickets
respectively. Kegalle District scored 200 runs for 9 wickets at
close. M. N. Gunaratne top scored with 40 runs. Palitha
Wijesekera 2 for 22 and Kumar Jayawickrema 2 for 18 shared the
wickets.
* Two good knocks by Amila Illankoon 81 (2 sixes, 10 fours) and
Ravindra Warnasuriya 75 n.o. (10 fours) who put up 109 for the
third helped Sri Rahula College, Katugastota to score a first
innings win over Kegalu Maha Vidyalaya in their schools under-17
cricket tournament match played at Katugastota. Chief scores:
Kegalu MV: 229 all out. Sri Rahula: 296 for 5 at close.
