At Rawalpindi, December 7, 2003 (day/night). Pakistan won by 49 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
A New Zealand side short on quality and confidence failed to break Pakistan's opening pair
for nearly 40 long overs. After trying 12 different openers in 15 months, Pakistan finally seemed
to have found two that clicked: Yasir Hameed and Imran Farhat shared their fourth successive
century stand - a world record - and both hit centuries. Although New Zealand restricted Pakistan
to 131 from the final 20 overs, the off-spinner Shoaib Malik then slowly strangled their middle
order, three of whom fell to suicidal run-outs as they tried to inject momentum into the innings.
New Zealand's seventh successive one-day defeat made this their worst run since 1994-95.
Men of the Match (and Series): Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed.
