Papua New Guinea claims first ICC Trophy 2005 victory

Papua New Guinea yesterday secured their first victory of the 2005 ICC Trophy, defeating Oman by 93 runs in a rain-affected match.

Papua New Guinea yesterday secured their first victory of the 2005 ICC Trophy, defeating Oman by 93 runs in a rain-affected match.
After beginning the tournament with three consecutive defeats against highly fancied opposition, Papua New Guinea (PNG) put together their best performance of the tournament to claim victory over Oman in a match reduced to 24 overs.
Batting first, PNG made 7/134, with Gimpau Keimelo top scoring with 27, while John Ovia contributed 25. In reply, Oman was dismissed for 41, with Man of the Match Inoa Baeau the pick of the bowlers with 3/7 off five overs. Keimelo, Dikana and Brazier took two wickets apiece.
PNG's final preliminary round match is against Canada, currently in third place in Group B with three wins from their four matches.
The second phase of the tournament commences on Saturday.
