LAHORE, May 5: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials held a meeting at the Qadhafi Stadium on Monday but did not announce any decision about the compromise formula suggested by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Sports Syed Mushahid Hussain.
The Adviser had held a meeting with the PCB chairman Syed Zulfiqar Ali Bukhari and Test cricketer Aamir Sohail in a hotel here on Sunday in which that formula had been put forward for an amicable solution of the problem of the two-year ban imposed on the Test opener. The ban had been imposed on Aamir Sohail by the PCB Disciplinary Committee on April 16 for making allegations against his fellow-cricketers of betting and match-fixing and also criticising an official.
The PCB chairman Syed Zulifqar Ali Shah Bukhari, chief executive Majid Khan, secretary Waqar Ahmad and treasurer Salman Taseer held the meeting to discuss the formula. However, when sports reporters contacted the officials they refused to give any details of the decision arrived at during their meeting. Syed Zulifqar Ali Shah Bukhari and Waqar Ahmad said that the decision will be announced by the PCB public relations officer Lt.- Col. (retd.) Rafi Nasim, who was out of the city on Monday. While replying to a question, Majid Khan said thatnewsmen must contact chairman Syed Zulifqar Ali Bukhari as the Adviser Mushahid Hussain had given the formula to him.
OUR KARACHI SPORTS REPORTER ADDS: "I can assure you that what action we take in regard to the Aamir Sohail affair will not only be good for cricket but also in country's interest," said Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah Bokhari, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a telephonic conversation with this correspondent from Lahore on Monday.
"We have appointed Lt. Col. Rafi Nasim, former Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) as the Media Adviser of the PCB. He will henceforth be dealing with you all and let you know about the exact position," added Mr. Bokhari. When told that Rafi Nasim was not available and that nobody was prepared to talk to the Press , Mr. Bokhari shot back: "He will talk to you. He is a matured man and as such we have appointed him to deal with members of the media. As the matter is not urgent, I have told members of the media both in Lahore and in Karachi, to get in touch with Col. Rafi Nasim on the morrow and he will tell you the actual position."
