LAHORE, May 12: ÊThe ÊPakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Disciplinary Committee has summoned Combined Universities Cricket team captain Abdul Saboor on May 13 (Tuesday) at its offices in the Qadhafi Stadium. Abdul Saboor will give his version on the charges levelled against his side by the PAF team for "conspiring with the Railways team in a fixed-match" of the Patron's Cricket Trophy Grade-II (1996-97) at Rawalpindi from March 18 to 20 in order to qualify for the semi-final and "deprive the Airmen from gaining that position".
The Disciplinary Committee chairman Talat Ali Malik will preside over the meeting which will hold the inquiry. Earlier, the committee had issued a show-cause notice to Abdul Saboor on April 25, asking him to explain his position on May 13.
Besides the first two days of the league-match, the first hour of the third day of the said match had been washed out due to rain. During the remaining four-and-half hours of the third day of the match, 364 runs were made in 67.4 overs by both the Universities and Railway teams. Railways team had needed 170 runs to oust the PAF team from the semi-finals and the Railwaymen managed to muster 176 runs in 32.4 overs due to "loose bowling by the Universities' bowlers", the PAF side alleged. In reply, Pakistan Universities team hit up 188 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the remaining 35 overs "in connivance with the Railway bowlers", the allegation said. Muhammad Siddique Khan and Ehtesham-ud-Din supervised that match.
