LAHORE, May 4: A high-level meeting to solve the problem of a
two-year ban on Test cricketer Aamir Sohail was held at a local
hotel on Sunday evening.
Shortly after an hour-long meeting, Adviser to Prime Minister on
Sports, Syed Mushahid Hussain, told newsmen that a compromise
formula has been given by him and the Pakistan Cricket Board
(PCB) will give its reply on Monday.
Mushahid Hussain drove to the hotel in the afternoon, leaving
the second match of the kabaddi tournament inconclusive (which
he had gone to inaugurate), and conducted the meeting. He met
the PCB chairman Syed Zulfiqar Ali Bokhari and the star opener
Aamir Sohail separately for some time. Later, he held a combined
meeting with the cricketer and the PCB boss in which Federal
Secretary for Sports Dr Akhtar Hassan was also present.
The Adviser said that so much had appeared about "Aamir Sohail
episode" in the national newspapers that his ministry decided to
"act" in the larger interest of the game of cricket and
Pakistan.
Syed Mushahid Hussain hoped that the PCB will respond favourably
to the compromise formula.
