Duminda Perera knocks up unbeaten 112
By Lal Gunesekera
D. S. Senanayake College's Duminda Perera notched up the highest
individual score in their `Big Match' series with St. Benedict's
College, as he made a splendid unbeaten 112 in their first
innings in the drawn game at Premadasa stadium yesterday. The
Bens made 156 for 8 declared in their first innings with `DS'
replying with 271 for 3 declared. The Bens in their second turn
were 139 for 2 at stumps.
Duminda Perera's record knock of an unbeaten 112 included only
five boundaries and came off 211 deliveries. He erased the
previous best 105 scored by A. Weerappuli of St. Benedict's last
year (1996).
Perera put on 166-runs for the third wicket with Muditha
Maduwantha, who missed a well deserved century by just seven
runs. This partnership too broke the previous record of 90 runs
that he (Duminda Perera) made with Batheesha de Silva last year
(1996).
Then again, Perera, was involved in a 87-run partnership for the
unbroken fourth wicket with Malintha Gajanayake who was unbeaten
on 51 with a six and six boundaries off only 61 deliveries.
The Bens too did quite well with the bat in their second turn
with openers Rally Tissera (54) and Pradeep Hewage (not out 76)
associated in a 85-runs stand for the first wicket.
Today
The limited-over game between these two schools (D. S.
Senanayake College and St. Benedict's College) will be staged
today at the Premadasa Stadium.
