Offspinner Ramesh Powar spun a magical web around the Gujarat lineup
scalping five for 77 to give Mumbai the first innings lead in the West
Zone Ranji Trophy match at Wankhede stadium on Monday.
Gujarat began the day on 124 for three but were soon bundled out for
274 in 87.4 overs. Mukund Parmar (61), Tejas Varsani (41) and Bhavin
Mehta (50 not out) played fighting knocks but could not prevent the
downfall. Paceman Santosh Saxena and Sairaj Bahutule picked up two
wickets each for 34 and 47 runs respectively.
Gujarat followed on with 247 runs behind and did well to hold out the
Mumbai attack in their second innings. Openers Nilesh Modi (53) and
Vivek Gandhi (53) scoring an unbeaten 111 run partnership in 44 overs.
Nilesh hit seven boundaries and Vivek had four hits to the fence.
