The ICC President Mr
Sakyasen Mittra
15-May-2000
The ICC President Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya today stated that positive
steps, rather than baseless allegations, should be taken to tackle the
current crisis that is affecting cricket. He also said, that he had no
idea why people were hounding him.
In a very short interview to a vernacular news channel here in
Calcutta, Dalmiya said, "Everybody seems to have forgotten Hansie
Cronje episode. Nobody is talking about him anymore. On the other
hand, the limelight has shifted to some allegations which are yet to
be proved." Dalmiya also made it clear that it is very painful for
a person to maintain a clean image once it has been tarnished.
Referring to the allegations by former BCCI president Inderjit Singh
Bindra on Kapil Dev, Dalmiya said "Look at the incident of Kapil Dev.
If it is proved that he is innocent, three months from now, will
anything substantial happen. Will he recover from the trauma that he
is going through at present."
Meanwhile according to a news item that has appeared today in a
vernacular daily called Aajkaal, the CBI has already prepared a list
of nine people for interrogation. Amongst them are Jagmohan Dalmiya,
A.C.Muthaiah, I.S.Bindra, M.P.Pandove, Lokesh Sharma, Kapil Dev and
Manoj Prabhakar.
