Twenty-three-year-old Ahmed Amla will lead a powerful Rest of South Africa
team in a four-day game against the touring Sri Lankans in Benoni over the
first weekend in November.
National selection panel convener Omar Henry says: "This is a great
opportunity to take a look at some of the players who are on pushing for
inclusion in the "A" squad. It also gives the likes of Jon Kent, who played
for South Africa last season and Garnett Kruger who has been on the fringes
of the national team a chance to re-establish themselves as contenders for
the senior team."
North West Dragons opener James Henderson's prolific start to the domestic
season has been rewarded. The left-hander scored a century in each innings
of his side's draw with the Highveld Strikers last weekend, and has made 576
runs in eight innings so far. The potential shown by teammate Davey Jacobs
has also been recognized by the selectors.
The pace attack is an exciting combination, with Kruger joined by EP Jumbo
teammate, left-armer Brent Kops and Griqua Diamonds right-arm fast bowler
Zahir Abrahim who has taken 16 wickets in four outings this season.
The seven players representing South Africa at the Hong Kong Sixes were not
considered for selection.
