LAHORE, April 22: Pakistan, India, New Zealand and South Africa
won their respective matches on the opening day of the first
International Double Wicket Cricket Tournament under the
floodlights at the Qadhafi Stadium on Tuesday.
Pakistan beat UAE: A forceful knock of 88 runs by slogger Shahid
Khan Afridi enabled Pakistani pair to beat UAE by 31 runs.
Batting first the pair of Pakistan Shahid Khan Afridi and Aaqib
Javed scored 97 runs for three dismissals which reduced their
total to 67 (10 runs less to each dismissal). Shahid Khan Afridi
hit nine big sixes and seven fours off just 27 balls. He was out
for two time. Aaqib Javed scored seven runs with one six off
nine balls. He also out for one time.
For UAE Sultan Zarwani got two wickets for 46 runs while Riaz
Poonwala took one wicket for 49 runs. In reply, UAE pair could
muster 56 runs for two dismissals and their net total was 36.
Riaz Poonwala scored 40 runs off 23 balls. He cracked five
fours. Sultan Zarwani made 13 runs off as many balls. Both were
out for one time each. Shahid Khan Afridi was declared man of
the match. Shakoor Rana and Khizer Hayat were the umpires while
Athar Zaidi was TV umpire.
India win:
Batting first Sri Lankan's pair of Umagiliyedurage Upul Chandana
and Galage Pramodya Wickremasinghe scored 45 runs with five
dismissals and set an easy target of -5 for India. U.U. Chandana
scored 31 runs with three dismissals. He hit four fours and one
towering six. G.P Wikremansinghe made only eight runs off 16
balls with two dismissals. For India Atul Satish Wassan took
three wickets for 14 runs and was declared the man of the match.
Sanjah Vijay Manjrekar claimed two wickets conceding 28 runs.
In reply, Indian pair overtook the target comfortably as scored
39 runs with one time dismissal of A.S Wassan. S.V Manjrekar
contributed 18 runs with four boundaries off 14 balls. A.S
Wassan scored 18 runs with one dismissal. He despatched the ball
three times to the rope. For Sri Lanka G.P. Wickremasinghe took
one wicket for 18 runs. Shakoor Rana and Siddique Khan
supervised the match. Mian Aslam was the TV umpire.
New Zealand triumph:
Batting first the Australian pair of Damien Richard Martyn and
Joe Angel scored 65 runs with two dismissals and set a target of
45 runs for New Zealand. D.R Martyn scored 33 runs with three
six and four fours off just 16 balls. He got one dismissal.
J.Angel produced 30 runs with two six and one four off 20 balls
and also got one dismissal. For New Zealand Simon Blair Doull
snapped-up two wickets for 34 runs. In reply, S.B. Doull with
Stephan Paul Fleming scored 56 runs with one dismissal. S.B
Fleming scored 28 runs with three fours off 22 balls. S.B Doull
scored 24 with one dismissal. He hit three fours. S.B . Doull
was adjudged the man of the match. Mian Aslam and Siddique Khan
were the umpires. Khizar Hayat was the TV umpire.
Victory for SA:
In the last match, South African's pair of Adam Bacher and Louis
Koen defeated Zimbabwean duo Eddo Andre Brandes and Guy Whittal
by 41 runs. Batting first Zimbabwe scored 50 runs but for five
dismissals so could set a target of zero for South African. G.
Whittal scored 13 runs with one four and got out for two times.
Brandas made 35 with three dismissal. He hit two six and three
fours off 20 balls. For South Africa A. Bacher took two wickets
for 22 and L.J Koen two wickets for 29. In reply, South African
pair scored 41 runs without any dismissal. L.J Koen scored 23
with four fours. A. Bacher made 14 with two fours. A. Bacher was
the man of the match. Athar Zaidi and Mian Aslam were umpires
while Shakoor Rana was the TV umpire.
Four more matches will be played on Wednesday.
