After a gap of 51 days, Saba Karim returned to the cricket
field on Thursday. The Indian wicketkeeper batted at the nets
at Arun Lal's cricket academy for over an hour. However, he
donned glasses while batting. Even though he looked a bit
hesitant at the beginning, Karim's batting attained fluency
as time passed. Later, he said, ``Batting with glasses is a
new experience for me. That is why it will take a little time
for me to adjust. However, I think, I will be able to work
myself into proper physical condition within the next couple
of weeks.''
Karim was injured on his right eye while keeping wickets for
India against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup cup in Dhaka on May 30.
After minor surgeries and medication, he is back in action.
Karim's entire cricketing career epitomises the word `fighter.'
Since he toured West Indies with the Indian team in 1989, Karim
has always been fighting to establish himself in the squad. Now
he feels that the fight will start all over again. ``I have to
get back to shape as quickly as possible, especially as we have
a very busy schedule beginning with the Sahara Cup at Toronto,''
said Karim. He also added that he was looking forward to regaining
his place in the squad. ``I have always loved a challenge
and this is another one for me,'' said the wicket keeper batsman
with the new look.
