KARACHI, April 15: Aamir Sohail faces a one year ban when Talat
Ali, Chairman, Disciplinary Committee, announces the decision at
a Press conference in Lahore on Wednesday.
The former captain is also expected to be fined in cash. The
cash penalty may range between Rs 15,000 and Rs 50,000.
During the ban, Aamir Sohail will not be allowed to participate
in any cricket whether domestic or international . Aamir Sohail
had appeared before the Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday but
the panel had reserved its decision, perhaps because one member,
Sikandar Bakth, could not reach Lahore. Other members of the
committee are Talat Ali and Ashraf Qureshi.
A member, on condition of anonymity, said Aamir Sohail was
invited at 11:00 a.m. but he arrived at 1:00 p.m. "He hardly
stayed there for 10 minutes during which he submitted his
three-sentence version."
The following statement was submitted by Aamir Sohail: "Whatever
evidence I had has been given to the Ministry of Sports,
Government of Pakistan, and I have been advised to convey the
same message to the Disciplinary Committee." According to
sources, Talat Ali, on Wednesday is expected to take the plea
that betting, match fixing and bribery allegations were levelled
before also and were thoroughly investigated by former Chief
Executive, Arif Abbasi.
Talat is also expected to defend the allegations by saying that
Aamir Sohail never made these accusations when he was in the
team. Talat may also inform the sports scribes that Aamir Sohail
never submitted anything in writing either to the cricket board
or his managers. Talat, according to sources, will be
distributing the mediamen all the documents the PCB exchanged
with Aamir Sohail. The documents are likely to include the show
cause notice issued to the cricketer and his explanation.
