Sangakkara runs out of luck

Watch the plays of the day from the second day of the second Test between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo

Bat man begins

The moment the P Sara crowd had been waiting for. Kumar Sangakkara was striding out to bat in his final Test. Over 12000 runs, 11 double-centuries and an average close to 60. Definitely guard-of-honour material.

An early escape

His innings wasn't the most fluent though, and on 24, Sangakkara edged a cut shot to slip. It traveled quickly, and was at an awkward height to snap up. Even for world-record holder Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane's redemption

As tough a chance as it had been, Sangakkara is not someone you drop. But the Indians needn't have worried, as eight runs later another opportunity arrived and Rahane was more than up for it

The tickle

The ball was a beaut. The noise was clear. But umpire Rod Tucker ruled there was no edge and Wriddhiman Saha survived. If Dhammika Prasad was disappointed, he would not have felt much better after seeing the replay. The outswinger had opened the batsman up, kissed the off stump, but did not disturb the bails

The step too far

Stuart Binny has been through three Tests without a wicket. At the P Sara, he was given the responsibility of being India's fifth bowler and he did most things right. Well, except picking up a wicket
