Shoaib Akhtar, still in Pakistan after being overlooked for the tour of the West Indies, has pledged his commitment to the United Nations World Food Programme. Shoaib has promised to take part in one of many walks across the world on June 14, aimed at raising funds to feed and educate underprivileged children.
Speaking at the campaign launch in Islamabad, Shoaib said, "I am ready to deliver to the best of my ability and give my last drop of blood to help eradicate child hunger. I love kids and want to participate in as many events as I can to help the children of the world and would come for a day from my county assignment in England to participate in the walk."
Shoaib has also expressed his willingness to be part of a WFP programme to tour areas devastated by the tsunami in South Asia last December. "As and when I get time I do charity and social work," he said. "I am ready to go to tsunami-affected areas and raise funds for them."
