LAHORE, April 14: Test opener Aamir Sohail appeared before the PCB
Disciplinary Committee on Monday in response to the latest legal notice
served on him for alleging some team-mates' involvement in betting and
gambling in an interview recently published in an English newspapers
(not Dawn).
The PCB secretary Waqar Ahmad told this reporter at the board's
headquarters in the Qadhafi Stadium that the left-hand opener (Aamir
Sohail) presented a written statement to the two members of the
Disciplinary Committee, who were present. However, he was "tight-lipped"
about the contents of the statement or the date on which the committee
intended to announce its action about the case.
While replying to a question, Waqar Ahmad said that earlier one-month
ban imposed on Aamir Sohail for his "misdemeanour" would expire on April
16 but the present case has nothing to do with the earlier decision. The
committee was expected to take a decision in this regard soon.
The meeting was attended by the Disciplinary Committee chairman Talaat
Ali Malik and a member Ashraf Qureshi from Rawalpindi. The third member
of the committee, former Test paceman Sikandar Bakht did not come from
Karachi to attend the meeting.
"Sikandar Bakht has informed that he was 'indisposed'. So, he will not
be coming to Lahore to attend the meeting", said Waqar Ahmad while
explaining the former Test fast-medium bowlers's absence from the
important meeting.
The Allied Bank (ABL) has constituted a panel of senior barristers to
guide their employee, Aamir Sohail, in his legal wranglings with the
Pakistan Cricket Board and he (Aamir Sohail) is now pleading his case
after consulting them, it has been reliably learnt here.
