Sohail's case delinked from betting charge
ISLAMABAD, May 8: Mr Mushahid Husain, Prime Minister's Adviser
on Information and Sports, told the Senate on Thursday national
all-rounder Aamir Sohail's case has been delinked from the
betting charge. He said although reports containing allegations
against some cricketers have appeared in the Press, no formal
complaint of any sort is available on the record of the Cricket
Board. He said that even now no formal complaint has been
lodged.
He clarified that the PCB was the sole authority to control and
promote cricket in Pakistan. The PCB, Mushahid said, has an
independent disciplinary committee which conducted inquiry into
the allegations. In reply to another question, Mushahid said
that the action against players levelling such charges could
only be taken after an investigation of facts but so far nothing
conclusive has been arrived at.
In reply to questions from Kh Majid Sultan and several other
Senators, including Taj Haider, Anwar Bhinder and Jamiluddin
Aali, the Adviser said that he had meetings jointly and
separately with Aamer Suhail and Pakistan Cricket Board
officials. He said the government had given them a compromise
formula which was being considered by both sides. He said some
concessions had been given to both sides. The Adviser held out
an assurance to the Senators that the Government will hold an
internal inquiry into the charges of betting by some of the
players of the team because this is a serious matter.
The charge of betting has serious implications for the future of
the Pakistan cricket, he pointed out.
