Sri Lanka: Peterites still in top spot

St. Peter's College continue to occupy the top spot in the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association Elephant Lemonade Cup Group 'A' Points Table.

The Peterites with five victories to their credit have maintained an excellent average throughout the tournament. Last week however they were held to a draw by St. Anthony's College at Bambalapitiya.

Meanwhile St. Joseph's College bounced back into recognition by outplaying Trinity College by an innings and 28 runs on their home grounds. This was their fifth win for the season and are making a strong claim to clinch the 'A' Division title.

The former champions Ananda too recorded their fifth win in the tournament by outplaying Dharmaraja College quite convincingly at Ananda Mawatha. However the Anandians are far behind on average as they have played too many games than their opponents.

St. Sylvester's College Kandy jumped into the second place of the points table with two good victories and have maintained a superb average of 6.936. Lumbini MV who have also recorded five wins in the tournament are placed third followed by St. Joseph's College and President's College.

Meanwhile Isipatana pulled off a spectacular seven wicket win over Thurstan in their 36th annual encounter at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. Their success had great significance considering the fact that their previous victory in the series was recorded way back in 1986 under the captaincy of Chetaka Perera.

This match will be remembered for the efforts of Isipatana's Malinda Abeyratne and Milinda Wickremasinghe who were involved in a last wicket stand of 56 runs in the first innings. Thurstan's Mohamed Fiyaz and Gihan de Silva produced a similar performance in the second innings which almost helped their side force a draw.
