Sri Lanka won the toss and put Zimbabwe in to bat
At a sunny but cold and windy Oval, Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu won the toss and chose to field. The pitch is the same used for New Zealand against USA, which produced a run-fest for New Zealand. The pitch is dry on top - a typical Oval pitch. It could potentially spin, but mainly it will favour the batsmen.
Sri Lanka have won 15 from their last 16 one-day internationals and Marvan Atapattu said he hoped to keep Sri Lanka's form up for longer. Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga have been left out of the team to face Zimbabwe at The Oval. The final choice in the playing XI will be between Saman Jayantha, the possible seventh batsman, or Kaushal Lokuarachchi, the extra spin option.
Zimbabwe, who must win this match to have a chance to progress, have made no changes to the team who lost to England at Edgbaston on Friday. But captain Tatenta Taibu said he wanted to give those players a chance again.
