Sri Lanka's cricketers may abort their tour of New Zealand due to the tidal waves that ravaged Sri Lanka yesterday. It is estimated that over 3000 people died or went missing when waves hit the northern coast of the island and that over a million people have been displaced.
An unnamed player's mother was injured, while other players were still awaiting news on their extended families. The BBC website quoted Brendon Kuruppu, the Sri Lankan manager, as saying, "It's a disaster in Sri Lanka. We're in shock. We need to speak to the guys and see how we take it from here."
Sri Lanka's tour of New Zealand is scheduled to go on till January 26, but the earthquake off Indonesia, which gave rise to the tsunamis that crashed into several countries in south-east asia may change that now.
