Scorecard
An allround performance from Azhar Mahmood enabled Surrey to make it two wins in as many days at a sun-drenched Metropolitan Police ground as Essex never mounted a serious challenge in front of a large crowd. Surrey's depth of batting showed, Graham Thorpe's 35-ball fifty being capped by a 43 from 18 balls by Mahmood just as Essex appeared to be containing them to a reasonable total. Andy Flower (30) and Ronnie Irani (26) briefly looked capable of worrying Surrey, but Mahmood (4 for 20) ended any possibility of an upset.
Gloucestershire beat Worcestershire by four wickets at Bristol
Scorecard
The Twenty20 Cup no doubt favours the batsmen, but the Gloucestershire bowlers put their limited-overs nous to good effect when they restricted Worcestershire to 122 all out from 19.5 overs. Slower-balls and yorkers were the order of the day as all five bowlers took at least one wicket each. Andrew Hall top-scored with 46, but the rest of the batsmen struggled to take off. Gloucestershire had a few early hiccups on the way, but Jonty Rhodes (42) and Matt Windows (27) got them back on track before Mark Alleyne and Jack Russell saw them home with five balls to spare.

Hairy moment: Ryan Sidebottom appeals against Derbyshire during Yorkshire's convincing win at Headingley

Yorkshire beat Derbyshire by 45 runs at Headingley
Scorecard
Michael Lumb got the Yorkshire folk into the party spirit with a smashing 42 from 22 balls as they amassed a huge and unbeatable 186 for 5. Yuvraj Singh hit a more sedate 44 from 42 balls, but it wasn't such a good day for Yorkshire's other overseas player, Stephen Fleming, who was out lbw first ball to Dominic Cork. However, once Cork was run out third ball of Derbyshire's reply, and Chris Silverwood reduced them to 36 for 3, there was only going to be one winner. Michael Di Venuto fought bravely for his 67, but no-one else produced the heroics needed as Derbyshire were dismissed with 11 balls still remaining.
