PIA battered Karachi Blues into submission on Friday scoring an innings and 161-run victory inside three days in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-IV match at KRL Stadium.
Karachi Blues, forced to follow on after being dismissed for only 165, went crashing to defeat, managing only 134 in their second innings. PIA had piled up a massive 460 for nine declared in their first innings.
Karachi Blues could last barely nine overs after resuming at the overnight 155 for five, with paceman Umar Gul inflicting the damage by snaring three wickets for 32 runs.
Najaf Shah, the left-armer pacer, picked up two more wickets to finish with five for the innings. The two bowlers then continued their demolition act, ripping the rivals apart with Umar picking up another four wickets and Najaf snapping up two more.
The Karachi boys were in such hopeless form that their top four batsmen all went for nought, Umar and Najaf sharing those wickets. Only Sharjeel Ashraf could manage to put on a respectable 52 and Sajid Hanif who scored 36. Everyone else was a failure.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi suffered the same fate as Karachi Blues, crashing to an innings and 55 runs defeat against KRL. Rawalpindi, 13 for one overnight, were bundled out for 197 in their second innings on the third day. Babar Naeem with 47 and Junaid Zia, who scored 46 were the key scorers.
Yasir Arafat was the chief wicket-taker with five for 57 while Mohammad Asif captured four for 48. KRL had accumulated a first innings total of 410 for eight declared.
ZTBL also gained a three-day win, when they overcame Peshawar by 280 runs in the match at Arbab Niaz Stadium. Fast bowlers Mubashir Nazir finished with a match haul of nine for 62 and Fahad Masood seven for 50.
