Haynes, back in the side, led the way with his tenth hundred at this level, his 142 not out coming from 132 balls and including thirteen fours and a six. He added 152 with Richardson (76 balls, twelve fours) for the second wicket in just 24 overs. When 85, Haynes was adjudged lbw to Jaffer in the 34th over, only for Imran to withdraw the appeal when the batsman, as he walked away, indicated that he had hit the ball. Pakistan made a spirited reply. Ramiz (53 balls) and Mudassar put on 70 in fourteen overs, and Salim Malik kept the match alive with 85 off 55 balls, hitting ten fours and a six. However, Ambrose came back to dismiss him with a low return catch, Hooper caught Imran in the following over, and the next three wickets could manage only 17. A crowd of some 26,000 witnessed 58 fours and two sixes in the feast of batting.
