Essex fast bowler Mervyn Westfield has signed a new two-year contract up to the end of the 2009 season.
Westfield, 19, is continuing his rehabilitation after missing much of the 2007 campaign following surgery on a lumbar spine stress fracture.
Despite his injury, Westfield has been selected in the ECB Skills Set for fast bowlers at the National Cricket Centre in Loughborough over the winter.
After making his first-class debut in 2005, the England Under-19 international has so far made five first-class appearances with a best bowling of for 72 against Somerset at Garon Park in 2006.
