Under-Achieving Police middle-order batsman Trevor Griffith finally
delivered his maiden Division 1 century after a decade in belligerent
style against a hapless Cable and Wireless BET yesterday.
Griffith, a former Barbados Under-19 selectee, clobbered seven fours
and five disdainful sixes in an electrifying knock of 104 which took
just 96 minutes and only 86 balls.
His no-nonsense knock enabled Police to end the second day with an
overall lead of 339 runs after they had earlier led BET by 118 on
first innings.
Coming to the crease with Police on 63 for three in their second
innings at 4.41p.m., Griffith flayed the BET attack in an awesome and
audacious display of attacking batting.
After racing to his fifty off a mere 39 balls, Griffith galloped to
his century in grand style by hoisting medium-pacer Andrew Hurley for
two huge sixes in the space of three balls.
Griffith, who has had several below-par seasons at this level since he
represented Spartan before becoming a cop, added 60 for the fourthwicket with Brian Corbin, who made a fluent 42.
After Corbin and captain Rudolph Clarke fell to slow-medium bowler
Lonelle Hutson, Griffith launched a severe attack on the BET bowlers
as he dominated a sixth-wicket stand of 81 with debutant wicket-keeper
Wainwright Brewster, who made 26.
Earlier, BET, batting with two men short as captain Brian Johnson was
absent and left-arm spinner Jedson Yarde failed to show up for the
second straight day, were undermined by a four-wicket haul from swing
bowler Anderson Campbell.
BET, who started the day on 20 for two, were dismissed 35 minutes
before the tea break, but only flattered to deceive when they reduced
the lawmen to two for two at the interval.
